Do you have an emergency survival plan for your family? You need one. Even if you do not leave in a Flood Zone, Earthquake Area, Tornado Alley or along a coastline with a horrible Hurricane past, you still need a plan. So, you are probably wondering where to start right? Well, you need to make your plan methodically and consider several things.
The first thing that I’d like you to consider is communication. Why? Simple, you see communication is almost always disrupted during a natural disaster, especially one that is related to weather. Earthquakes are also known for communication collapse. So, you need to put together your emergency plan and on the first page a list of important phone numbers for all the members of your family.
Make a list of cell phone numbers, IM, E-mail, work and family numbers. Also this list should be duplicated and emailed to relatives living far away. Because when natural disasters happen communication even if they are working are overwhelmed and priority goes to law enforcement and emergency services. Plus, many times the communication assets of the region are cut by two-thirds due to power lines and communication lines downed.
Your family also needs a reunion location to meet, in case you cannot get back into your area or your home or neighborhood is destroyed. This way everyone can meet in a specific place and no one has to worry about anyone who is already safe, because they’ll already there with you. Most disaster preparedness planners suggest these issues as the most pressing. So, please consider this.
